The Chinese characters are engraved and painted in red and black.
They are 3.8 cm (1.5 inches) in diameter, and 1.5 cm (5/8 inch) thick.

Faux Suede Vinyl Xiangqi Playing Mat
Durable, wrinkle-resistant, very pleasant to the touch!
This vinyl board has a soft suede-like surface, with smooth naugahyde backing.
It is very flexible, and will straighten out if folded (though we recommend storing it neatly rolled for best results).
Xiangqi pieces slide smoothly and stand firmly on this ideal playing surface.

20 x 18 inches (52 x 47 cm).
Lines are spaced 2 inches (5 cm) apart, to accommodate pieces up to 4.8 cm in diameter.

This set comes with a clear 4-panel rule booklet in English. The rules of play are laid out very well, with illustrations and explanations of everything needed to play.
