Here is a used Vintage Solid hardwood Wood Chess Board project.
I am not going to finish this in my life time and going to have to pass this project along.  You can finish it any way you feel inspired to, but i have outlined what i was going to do down below.
This Handmade roughly 13x13" USA made board is made from Purple Heart, Teak, Oak and Corian.  It will need to be re-glued in parts and the frame will need to be fastened to the main board by way of the drilled holes on the edges.  Best then to fill the  frame boards with a contrasting dowel like walnut.  The center board was made to pore some colored resin in the circles to finish out the checker board.  Route the edge, Sand it and finish it nicely.   I was going to use satin deft, many coats with a fine sanding in between.
To save you money  i will ship it in a flat rate box,  however in shipment some of the other edge frame parts may come lose and will need to be re-glued.   So be sure of your skills and i would like to see a photo when you complete this.
