Description
I believe this was a gift of appreciation to Bottlers celebrating the 100 year anniversary of Dr Pepper. An encased 1885 Morgan silver dollar made by Tiffany Co. commissioned by Dr Pepper. These were given out at the 100th Anniversary Party (Invitation Only) held in Dallas in October, 20th, 1984.I bought a couple of these at an Estate Auction for the Widow of W.W. "Foots" Clements, CEO & Marketing Mastermind for Dr Pepper.
This piece is very rare and from 1985, I'm not sure how many of these were made, but these are not your usual production collectibles.
I'm sure several of these will be sold on Ebay of the next few months, as there were about 50 of these recently sold at auction.
This prismatic paper weight is very attractive with the red base adding contrast to the glittering silver dollar. The red base says Dr. Pepper 100 Original Years 1885-1985 in white. The Morgan silver dollar used is an 1885 dated coin and not just a common Philadelphia piece but one minted in New Orleans, appears to be un-circulated, with some light scratches. I'm only commenting on the condition, I am not a coin expert. It's a great display piece.
The base is approximately 3 ¼" x 2 ¾" and stands roughly 3 1/8" high. So it is not quite a 45 degree angle, but with the face of the coin shown face on at this angle it really stands out. These come with the original gift box and care card.
I have a few of these, the pictures listed are a representation of condition, you may not get the exact coin in the pictures.
If you Purchase an 1885-O, you will get a Morgan Dollar minted in New Orleans. It has a mint mark just below the wreath on the Tails side of the coin.
