GENUINE RHEA AMERICANA LEATHER BELT
made in Argentina
the Rhea Americana is a very large flightless bird that lives in South America.
The Rhea is not yet Threatened, but hopefully will be protected before the population thins.
A flock of over 100 has established itself in the German countryside – dealing with the winter just fine.
Belt is stamped Size 34
although the markings are more subdued than it’s cousin the Ostrich, the leather is very comparable in suppleness and durability.
This belt is NEW and UNUSED
The buckle is in MINT CONDITION.
tHE QUALITY F THE NICKELS THAT WERE USED IS QUITE NICE – THE DETAILING SHOWS QUITE WELL.
The four that are inset with the Indian Head and deate facing outward are 2 form the year 1936 and 2 from the year 1929 (the year of Black Friday – the huge stock market crash).
On Indian Head nickels, the date is one of the first features to wear off, so for me to be able to read the dates on these four show the craftsman did not use the least valuable nickels in making this buckle. BTW: the detailing on the 6 buffalo sides is consistent with the detailing that still shows the date on the other 4.
You can see a seam in the leather near the sizing holes in the belt – the seam comes through at a 45 degree angle – great place to put the seam.
