    Description

    Southwestern yellow, brown shell? inlay Sterling silver butterfly belt buckle, hallmarked JR with other stamps around it. This unique butterfly buckle has 2 pieces with a silver loop or keeper on each side. Considering the depth of the loops, it will only fit thin straps, maybe no thicker than 1/16". The inlaid wings was beautifully crafted with etching on the shells? and and circles inlaid in a stone-on-stone style to adorn the wing design. We are not sure what the shell is, but it's mainly a vibrant yellow with brown stripes  and other orange stones all around. The buckle weighs about 20 grams, it's roughly 3 1/8" wide (across) by 1 5/8" tall, with a flat hook on one piece and a loop on the other that connects the 2 pieces together. The body of the butterfly is nicely etched. Dark patina. Gorgeous piece. Not Native American.
