SCARCE NELSON-SILVIA "SALESMAN's SAMPLE" STRIKING FROM MODEL 100 RANGER BUCKLE SET
ONE OF THE ULTIMATE NELSON-SILVIA COLLECTIBLES!!!
NOTE: I am not representing that this is the ONLY one in existence but I have never seen another and do not know of another (that was made back then).  By that, I mean a 100 striking in brass to show potential customers what the buckle sets looked like.  I do have other models produced but not 100's.
Value of this Piece is in its rarity.  I believe that it has more value than a Sterling set.  (Reason being, there are many silver sets...but not these).  Priced accordingly.
For those lucky enough to have actually gone to the shop on Crawford before it closed, you will remember the display case with the cowhide in the bottom that was branded with the "Running W" Brand from the King Ranch.
In the drawers underneath the display case, they kept these samples to show potential customers what they had in the way of different billet widths.  The 100 of course was a 3/4" billet set.
Rick spilled some sort of layout die all over it in the shop so I wire wheeled the front of the striking off so that you could see the detail.  The back I have pretty much left alone.  The purple die is still on it.
For those unfamiliar with how these dies operated, there was a die and forcer which "pinched" the material the buckle was being made from in the die, allowing for a thinner gauge (usually Sterling) to be used.
Since they obviously didn't want a drawer full of Sterling samples unlocked, they made up these brass ones just for "show".  It allowed the customer to choose from the samples what buckle set they wanted to order.
Pretty neat Nelson-Silvia collectible with great history.
