exquisite Vintage Boyd Sterling Silver Overlay Western Belt Buckle with a Brass Horse

This rectangular buckle has a beautiful tooled design and is accented with a gold tone standing horse that is most likely brass. It is extremely appealing and will surely be admired.

The buckle is in excellent vintage pre-owned condition with barely any signs of use. It probably just sat in someone’s collection over the years. There is light tarnish that could be polished off.
Sterling Silver Overlay is created by using a thick layer of Sterling Silver over a base metal. So what you see and feel is real Sterling Silver, but it’s not solid Sterling Silver all the way through. Pure silver is too soft and tends to bend and dent. Using this technique, jewelers were able to make these buckles more durable without losing the look & feel of Sterling Silver. Overlay is not to be confused with Silver Plating which has a very thin layer of Silver on base metal that tends to wear off easier.
