    Description

Hello and WELCOME BACK to all of my loyal customers over the years. I have recently returned to Ebay after two years abroad, and I am happy to once again offer some of the FINEST and RAREST vintage collectible Western Trophy Buckles and Ranger Sets in the United States. Most ALL of my items are ORIGINAL, not modern reproductions of the originals. These are the REAL McCOYS!!!
Offered here is an EXCEPTIONAL, RARE and HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE Sterling and 10K RODEO TROPHY BUCKLE made to accommodate a 1 1/2 inch belt featuring a CALF ROPING SCENE and some of the MOST FABULOUS SINGLE-POINT HAND ENGRAVED SCROLLING that I have seen on a buckle. Although there is no maker mark, the work is reminiscent of AL PACETTI or DON ELLIS.....LOOK AT THE FLOWERS and the CUT-OUT LETTERS, EACH OF WHICH WAS HAND APPLIED. The buckle is engraved, "PRESENTED BY SILVER TOP MOTEL," and the gold letters read "1956 CHAMPION ALL AROUND COWBOY," and "FERRETTO RANCH RODEO." A TRUE MASTERPIECE!!!
This ranch is one of the few extant Truckee Meadows ranches in the RENO area of NEVADA. Ranching was the major industry in the Truckee Meadows from shortly after gold was discovered on the Comstock until the middle of the twentieth century. At the turn-of-the-century, agriculture was the largest industry in Washoe County and Reno was the largest city in Nevada. The ranch was owned by Peter Dalton from 1870 to 1910 and Joseph Ferretto and family from 1912 to the present. Dalton cultivated hay and grain, raised cattle, and conducted a dairy. The Ferretto family, an important Italian family in the area, purchased the property in 1912 and Joseph Ferretto ran the ranch. The ranch produced mostly alfalfa and wheat and fed beef cattle during the winter.
Whoever it was that made this buckle, there is no question that they were AMONG THE MOST TALENTED buckle makers of the last 100 years. The buckle is marked "STERLING 10K," and measures approximately 4 3/8 inches by 3 3/8 inches.
