This magnificent chess set takes its design from the very most elaborately carved sets of the medieval period. Using carving styles found troughout northern France, Germany and Scandanavia, this set carries on one of the world's most impressive chess conventions in grand style.
GREAT MEDIEVAL DETAIL
Please see the detailed photos below. Each of the royalty -- King, Queen and Bishop -- come to the chess game with an entourage of assistants. The king's throne is filled out with three rows of warriors; the queen brings her ladies in waiting, and the bishop marches forward with a
monastery
of praying monks. The rook, often depicted as a warrior in northern medieval sets, sits neatly in a castle turret, reminding us of the modern rook.
HEAVY, CAST IN STONE
These pieces are solid and heavy. They are cast with one of the very most durable brands of casting stone, made to last.
The king stands 4 1/8 inches high
The set weighs apporoximately 3 1/4 pounds
They are finished in warm ivory and honey beige tones, 'antiqued' to bring out the details of the forms.
