Offered is a beautifully designed and intricately detailed set of
The Trojan War Chess Set
As with all of our chess sets, this is a complete 32 Piece set.
We don't show all of the pieces in the picture because then
it gets too crowded and you can not see the magnificent detail.
And a view of the back
Beautifully cast in polyresin with 3 1/4" kings
and then painstakingly hand painted
in the authentic clothing of the era.
With 1" bases this set will fit a standard 12" x 12" board.
The manufacturer calls this "Sparta vs Troy"
However, that is misleading.
It should actually be called "Mycenae vs Troy".
It all began because Paris of Troy abducted Helen of Sparta.
Helen was the daughter of King Tyndareus of Sparta and the wife of Menelaus
who became King of Sparta after the death of Tyndareus
However, the actual invasion was led by Agamemnon King of Mycenae who was the brother of Menelaus
and was also married to Clytemnetra who was Helen's sister.
By all accounts, Sparta was not involved in the siege.
At one time Agamemnon was also a suitor of Helen and had promised her father Tyndareus
that he would defend the marriage of Helen regardless of whether she married him
or one of the other many suitors that pursued Helen.
After her abduction Menelaus simply held him to his promise.
Oh, and by the way, that old cliché "Beware of Greeks bearing gifts" is not accurate either.
It really ought to be "Beware of a Greek bearing gift".
(Or if you prefer, "Beware of Gifts bearing Greeks".)
"Fun" and "Learning"
do not have to be mutually exclusive.
This is such a beautiful set that, even when you are not playing,
it deserves to be left out just to show the world
"Hey, look what I got !!!"
This set is brand new, has never been used and comes in its own Fully Decorated Box
