On offer here is
AN ORIGINAL GROUP OF FOUR (4) HALF-GALLON GREEN GLASS BOTTLES
FULL OF SPARKLETTS SPRING WATER FROM 1949 !
This is a odd (if not weird) offering for us, but we had to offer this up because its so rare to find original UNUSED consumer products like this in UNTOUCHED condition.
The bottles are all in excellent condition save for a bit of box wear to the tops of the caps from rubbing against the box for 7 decades. We examined the fill levels (similar to how one evaluates vintage wine in bottles) and all are above the neck line (as shown). One bottle in particular looks nearly full with only a small about of loss after 72 years of storage. Truly amazing.
The person we acquired this from told us the box of bottles came from an old storage unit which had been in storage since the mid 1960's and was always stored upright which would explain the lack of loss and the exemplary condition of the 72 year old, original box the bottles were / are stored in.
We rationalize the pricing based on what the vintage green glass Sparkletts EMPTY bottles realize ( - depending on condition) and here we have an added plus;
THE ORIGINAL SPRING WATER AS FILLED IN 1949 !
The other obvious and rare addition is the
6 count cardboard box
.
We can surmise a collector might want these as an odd conversation piece or perhaps some environmental researcher might want this group to sample the water to understand either 1) what happens to water stored in packaging like this for 70+ years ? or 2) what can be learned from testing the water to understand the sort of environmental conditions which were evident in the post-war, Southern California spring water aquifer supply.
Who knows how the next owner will want to use this curious group, but suffice it to say its an interesting thing to own that your neighbor or friend will NOT have.
