Animal Horn Chess Set
This set is a vintage set carved fromanimal horn and is of unknown age
. . .it certainly predates the ‘50s and possibly was a souvenir from WWII.
It could be much older than that but is notolder than 1849 because the carving design is Staunton-ish and the Stauntondesign was not introduced until 1849.
Seller says hebought it at 6am at the large flea market in NYC (?).
The set was in a jewelry type box lined with50's cloth.
The dealer told the sellerthat he got the box and set together but did not believe that they belongedtogether.
The box was not included inthe original sale.
The king is4.1/2” tall.
The set is in excellentcondition but is clearly very old.
There is no boardwith the set.

Myfather (a long-time member of CCI (Chess Collectors International) built hiscollection of chess sets with pride over many years and cared for each setmeticulously. But now, sadly, with advancing age, he has decided to part withhis prized sets for others to enjoy.
